Fics like An Affinity for Strays

John Lennon comes back from the dead. He makes it Paul's problem. The body is a problem. Not because it's a woman's body, John's never cared much about that, and he's not about to start now. He spent the sixties wearing suits and the seventies frills; he's never been precious about gender. The problem is that it's not his. Magic like this is for the desperate, the devout, the slightly mad. Most people go their whole lives without encountering it, and they're better off for it. John, apparently, is not most people. "It hurts so much, Macca," John says, and the voice that comes out is not his voice. It's higher. Softer. It sounds like a stranger. "Just make it stop."
