Fics like Multiplicity of the Universe (I Still Have You)

"Phoenix has the X-Men. That doesn’t change no matter what universe we live in.” Peter closes his eyes. He knows that. He knows that down to his core. He looks at the group patting each other on the back, hugging, crying, laughing, and just having a place to simply be. They were locking arms, entering the X-Jet, about to leave the battlefield for the home that awaited them. Jean Gray deserves that. This Jean Gray deserves that. If only… if only— “But—” He whips his head back to Jean Gray still choosing to stand next to him. “This Jean Gray,” she says softly, tilting up to him, opening herself to show him how beautiful the sunlight can be reflected through those bright eyes and that bright red hair. “This Jean Gray has you.” ____ There are a lot of universes, sure. But this one, this one right here, this is the one where they are together. And Jean Gray wants it no other way. ... "Canon-Compliant" this "Canon-Event" that. Jean Gray thinks that's all pathetic. Jean Gray chooses to love Peter Parkwe so much that it changes the course of the entire narrative. Call that Canon.
