Fics like The World I Found In Your Gentle Hands

Vanessa is timid and easily frightened. She jumps at every shadow, keeps to herself, and hides away from others whenever she can. She would much rather go unnoticed than draw attention to herself, and she isn't the sort of drone anyone would expect to step into danger. But when she hears that a little baby has been left out in the snow, something in her refuses to let it go. She's scared, she knows she should probably stay inside, and yet she finds herself going out there anyway. She doesn't understand this strange new courage, only that she can't leave the baby to die. What Vanessa doesn't realize is that this one small act will set a series of events in motion, bringing her together with two other drones and slowly making all three of them just a little braver.
