Fics like Bad Feeling

His ears flinched back at the sound of a metallic click, not the sound of a key or a box of menthols but something sturdier than that. The sound reminding him of his father who had taken him hunting once before. Hand steady on his shoulder as Dennis flipped the safety off, to fire off into the chest of a buck. The sound of the gun firing bouncing around his skull, causing him to clutch his ears in pain. The moment had ingrained itself into his brain ever since. He knew what that sound was, there was no denying it. The inmate had a gun, and from the way Jack was still talking to him, he was the only one that had heard it. --- Hybrid Fruit Bat Dennis has better hearing than most people, which is probably why he should have been able to predict this.
