Fics like Masquerade and Mimicry

Shane knows he has a year to make things work on the Cens. That’s how long he signed with them on a bullshit try-out contract that’s way under his fair market value. And, yeah, he could’ve held out and haggled to get a better deal or waited to see if he’d get better offers - any offers - from other teams. But Shane hates uncertainty and signing with the Cens guarantees he’ll play hockey - with Ilya too. It just means he has a year to prove - to the Cens, to other teams, to the whole fucking world of hockey - that he’s still the best player in the league and a generational talent and worth a fat contract with term. Even if he’s half-Japanese and gay and married to Ilya. The first and most important step is Tanner Dillon.
