Fics like Soar, Stoop, Strike

Yuna starts preparing for the Centaurs’ mothers’ trip long before it’s even officially announced. The league likes to portray as a sweet, wholesome event that they do to acknowledge all the hard work and support players’ mothers have given over the years. It’s not. It’s a calculated marketing and PR exercise in pursuit of very specific goals - namely, growing the game of hockey in an untapped demographic of women, particularly older women. It also lets the league portray itself as pro-women - as if a mothers’ trip here and there makes up for things like welcoming Dallas Kent back into the league. This year’s mothers’ trip is even more important than usual. It’s Shane’s first year on the Centaurs, his first year being out and married to Ilya. Shane is doing his part by playing his heart out every single shift of every single game. It’s Yuna’s job to take care of the off-ice product, so she gets to work.
