Fics like The Boy He Couldn’t Save

Frank Castle knows what it means to lose a child. He knows the birthdays that never happen, the milestones that go uncelebrated, and the particular kind of grief that comes from knowing there was nothing you could have done to stop it. Then he meets Peter Parker. Peter is young, reckless, stubborn, painfully good-hearted—and the same age Frank's son, Frankie, would have been if he'd lived. Sometimes Frank catches familiar things in him: the brown eyes, the nervous jokes, the refusal to admit when he's hurt. At first, Peter is just another ghost his grief has created. But Peter isn't Frankie. He's Peter. And somewhere between patching up his injuries, leaving the kitchen light on for him, and listening to him talk far too much, Frank realizes that the kid has become something else entirely. His son. Not a replacement. Not a second chance to undo the past. Just a boy who needs someone to stay. And Frank Castle has spent years haunted by everything he couldn't save. Maybe this time, he can stay long enough to save someone who is still here.
