Fics like Turn Into Floods

There’s something dull red and slippery dangling from the rear of the cart. Like a fish tail, only too big to be a fish, and the bandits were talking as if- The thing rises up. Henry’s hair stands on end. Half man, half sea creature, it seems. Something right out of one of his ma’s stories, with its golden hair and red-orange scales, and Henry is frozen in place by the sound it lets out. He ought to leave this thing behind. His pa would say surely it is no creature of God, not to involve himself. But he’s never been good at listening. [kcd1 canon divergence: instead of meeting Hans in Rattay, Henry encounters him as a mermaid outside Skalitz]
