Fics like This room is my prison, these walls are my home

This room was chosen because it faced the east. The room would be bathed in reds, pinks and yellows until it was replaced with clear blue and an ocean view. View of the future, his uncle used to tell him in-between hits. A promise of a new ruler and a blessing born under the sun. His mother did always believe in superstitions. How wrong this one turned out to be. He was born way past sunrise, at sundown instead. And instead of light his birth was marked by darkness. Swallowing him whole as he fell into the underworld below. “Plus at the end she ended up throwing a guard out that balcony, poor man.” “That was me.” “What?” “The one she threw out that day,” he stops, watching the sunrise bleed across the sky—beautiful as he remembered, but so distant now. Something he could see but never touch. He tears his gaze away from the fading pink and looks back at his brother, whose face has gone slack with disbelief. “Was me.”
