Fics like Take what you Need and Leave the Rest

“Keep moving,” you mutter under your breath. “Keep moving, keep moving, keep moving.” Sometimes you don’t hear yourself. Sometimes you just hear the blood rushing through your ears and the white noise washes over you and warps and changes until it sounds like your sister’s voice. She sounds the same she did that day, hushed and desperate and angry and so full of love you regret every fight, every squabble, every argument you ever had with her. You are seventeen and you think you know everything you need to know, but your sister is guiding you out the door as your parents scream at each other inside and she pushes a bag with some of your things and a little bit of money into your arms and she tells you “Keep moving” while she is staying behind and you realize you don’t know anything. You know nothing. Or An unremarkable marine, through the years.
