Fics like The King's Boon

A younger Jenny and Cat King meet at Port Townsend's Greyhound station. In his first life, King Tildrum was a sleek tabby with a white bib. His human form was a man with dark brown hair and a shock of white at his temple. As he did not have fur in this form, he wore a brown leather jacket and black trousers to keep him warm. He adorned himself with jewellery befitting his station: gold rings around his fingers, a golden hoop through one ear. His eyes were covered by dark glass as they stayed a cat’s, no matter what form he took. (These sunglasses—that’s what humans call them—were not an unusual thing for a human to wear. Human vision is useless at night, but too much sun hurts them, too.) “Sunglasses at night?” the girl said with none of the respect the king was due. “It’s part of the look,” King Tildrum said. “Maybe you should get some to cover that black eye.” The girl said something very rude in reply, not at all suitable for a kitten’s ears, and walked away to sit on a nearby bench.
