Fics like The Truth in the Curtain Call

That tightrope he'd thought he'd escaped is a tripwire now, a thick metal cord pressed up against his shins just waiting for him to try and step forward. Heat itches at the back of his eyes. Akechi returning was supposed to fix all this. Instead Akira feels like he might fall apart at any moment. Which would be bad. Like, really bad. He can't do that in front of Akechi of all people. What would that even look like? What would Akechi think? "What are you even doing here?" Akira asks, and it sounds like an accusation. Five minutes ago it wouldn't have. It would have been happy. Excited. A question brimming with more. "Wasting my time, apparently." Akechi's answer is not the same as it would have been then either. "Coming here was a mistake." Or After their reunion goes sideways, Akira and Akechi are trapped inside a palace of their own making. To get out they each must confront hard truths about themselves, and figure out just who they are to each other now that revenge, gods, and the universe are out of the way.
