Raika Kaneto is the illegitimate son of a disgraced member of the illustrious Kaneto clan, the most powerful clan in the mercenary country of Gronda. Despite his less than honorable origins, he was fortunate enough to draw the eye of the clan's heiress, Xiaofeng Kaneto and was, rather forcefully, recruited to be her personal attendant. Now, at the ripe old age of thirteen, he finds himself dragged into his lady's inaugural mercenary assignment, a situation which he has no business getting involved with. But, as if that weren't bad enough, he'll soon discover that this is just the first in a series of events that will turn his entire life onto its head. And if his life is going to be upended, then what of his beloved toddler-aged sister, Shizuko, and his elderly parents who love both siblings more than life itself?
