Fics like Meet me halfway?

“Why?” The stranger raised his eyebrows, or as much of them as Shane could see. He would have called the movement teasing if it wasn't for the look in the man’s eyes. None of the humour made its way there, they were serious, pleading almost. “Why not?” “Because.” Shane needed more time, he needed to think. There must be a right way to go about this, the right thing to say to people on the edge, the right way to phrase it. “Because...?” “Just give me a minute, okay?” The man huffed. “You are not very good at this.” OR AU where Shane comes across a stranger on a bridge late one cold December night. He talks Ilya back from the wrong side of the railing (in his own unique way). It was supposed to be a one-off good deed, but over the years they keep finding themselves back on that same ledge together. At what point does it stop being serendipity and become actively choosing each other?
