Fics like Once More, Now Wary

Earth is terrified. Their salvation lies in the hands of aliens who they know nothing about, and these new beings demand one of their own in exchange. Dr. Ryland Grace is their leading expert on Astrophage, and despite his stoic insistence on being sent to the Eridians for the good of humanity, some of them aren’t sure they should give him up on the chance that these aliens will keep their word. Grace is delighted, though he’s trying not to let it show. His family has come back with him, and they have left the choice of whether to tell the other humans the truth about his situation up to him. He’s decided to let the rest of humanity make a few assumptions. It’s not like they’re likely to believe the truth, anyway, so what’s the harm in a bit of fibbing?
