Fics like i’d wanna call you

“Don't you have anybody you wanna call, besides Cho and Rigsby?” “No,” he says, keeping his face neutral. Lisbon turns her head, trying to hide the pity that crosses her face. Jane reconsiders and says, “I’d wanna call you but you’re already here so there’s no need.” Lisbon turns back to him, looking surprised and touched. "Me? What would you say?" "Oh…" he ducks his head and smiles, fidgeting with Lisbon's phone. He anticipated the question, after all, it's the natural follow-up to admitting that she's pretty much the only person he would want to talk to in his dying moments. Still, he finds himself suddenly nervous. ~~~ Or: the scene in Code Red where Lisbon asks Jane what he would say to her if he was dying. Instead of giving away the ruse immediately, Jane indulges her and they talk.
