Fics like diminishing second

In modern Western tonal music theory, a diminished second is the interval produced by narrowing a minor second by one chromatic semitone. It is enharmonically equivalent to a perfect unison; therefore, it is the interval between notes on two adjacent staff positions, altered in such a way that they have no pitch difference in twelve-tone equal temperament. The ache I feel for Adrian has been a part of me for so many years that it is a familiar dragging weight, like a mangled sixth limb. The ache for Grace is stranger, worse. Not because he is an alien, but the opposite; he is so much of myself that I have entirely lost the sound of where he begins and I end, and somehow I still want him closer, closer, closer.
