Fics like Wavelength

“Not — not understand,” Rocky continues, a little higher now, his body shuddering. “Try Vℓ times, all failure failure failure. Eridian mating sometimes fail, but not this much. This much unprecedented. Thought location, temperature, time of year problems in previous attempts — fixed all, Grace know Rocky and Adrian work to fix all, and still failure, still.” Grace fidgets with his hands, stretching each knuckle and palming the free edge of each nail, to keep from throwing himself onto Rocky and howling like an animal. (Because somewhere along the way, Rocky and Adrian's wish for kids had become Grace's own, too.) OR: Rocky and Adrian's eggs keep dying long before they hatch, and no one knows why. Grace — who definitely doesn't see himself as a parent to those hatchlings, how stupid and impossible would that be?! — has the normal reaction, which is inventing gene therapy from scratch to help the next egg survive.
