Fics like Les paradigmes s'effacent, les masques tombent (Paradigm Shift)

The knifing twist in Max's abdomen was blindingly, swelteringly hot, focused down into a sharp point that throbbed in his lower abdomen, around the hipbone. He cringed down, the room swimming, his guts clenching in on themselves and only making it worse in the process. He threw up. The world came back into focus as he shivered. He had to do well in Austria, of course, and then he’d get a 12-day break before starting England. So it was okay. Or: Max has appendicitis, ignores it. Races with a deliriously high fever. Charles attributes his reckless driving to ego, and is very angry. Charles confronts Max on their way to the podium and, catching him as he collapses, realizes he doesn't know anything about Max at all. (Kinda cute. Mentions of Max's fucked up mental process in regards to pain, racing, discipline. Can be platonic or not.)
