Fics like Al-Hawa

Ali, steeped in the ancient poetry of his people, knows that Arabs once recited love verses to show their beloved exactly what had been taken from the heart without permission or apology. He has felt this surrender acutely: his composure, his certainty, his very sense of direction, all claimed by this strange, fair Englishman who burns like a wildfire in the wastes. He has written a poem. Not on paper, paper is for lesser men, for those whose memories might fail. He has etched it into his very soul, the way a brand marks a wound. And now, in the quiet of the night, with only the wind and the fading hearth as witness, Ali recites his verses to Lawrence.
