Love had always been a strange thing to Medic. It wasn’t that he didn’t experience it – attraction that was. He understood the fundamentals of love, and why people commit to it. He had been around many people in his life who craved his affections. These people ultimately knew little about him. He had to hide back then. They didn’t know how brilliant he was. Saw madness in his ideas of invulnerability and immortality. He was godsent and too brilliant for them to behold. They ran, ran, ran. Scout, whose only job it had ever been was to run, always reminded him how he had trained himself to run towards danger, not from it. He was a bruised, grimy thing with dirt under his fingernails and his own blood on his teeth, and even though he had to shield his eyes, he never looked away from Medic’s angelic visage.
