Fics like a dubious victory

Then to the bedroom -- and Wolfgang turned to him (with an empty-headed smile) and said: "Well? We're here." And he laughed! The creature laughed, and Salieri felt himself filling up with irritation. "I realize," Salieri said, "you might be --" "Nervous? No, I'm not nervous," Wolfgang said, and from a quick glance at his face, Salieri could see he was telling the truth -- not a hint of nervousness anywhere. No, it was his nerves that were acting up. Wolfgang was smiling, all stupid, as if he were waiting for someone to reveal that a practical joke had been played on him, and took a seat on the bed. Salieri wondered what he was feeling, if not nervousness, and suddenly it occurred to him -- he wasn't amused, was he? As if this were funny to him? And what a situation to be in! One giggling fool perched on the wedding bed, and another fool wondering what to do next. This was out of his purview. -- Salieri does the only thing a sensible man could do in his position -- he arranges a marriage with Mozart without his knowledge. Snapshots of their life together.
