Fics like What Remains of Hope

Ten years after Sunnydale, Buffy Summers lives in deliberate quiet in the Sierra Nevadas, functionally retired and carrying the specific weight of everyone she couldn't save. Obi-Wan Kenobi, fleeing the wreckage of the Republic and a grief he has no language for, crashes a Jedi starfighter into her canyon in March 2013. Two people who have spent their lives choosing duty over themselves, betrayed by the institutions they trusted and haunted by those they lost, find each other at the end of their ropes. This is not a story about being saved. It's about two people who are very good at surviving, slowly and reluctantly, learning what it costs to actually live.
