Fics like A Death-Like Process

Just as Steph was about to take the leap, Pete stopped in his tracks and started coughing violently. She came to a quick stop, concerned. “You good, dude?” “I-I don’t—” Pete abruptly collapsed into a heap on the sidewalk, his already-empty cup falling to the side. Steph dropped to kneel beside him, barely feeling the concrete scrape against her exposed knees. “Pete?” She jostled his motionless body, panic surging through her. “Wake up, Pete. C’mon, man, don’t pass out on me now.” Something felt off. Steph hadn’t witnessed Pete going unconscious due to low blood sugar before; however, he had already finished his entire drink. Surely that had enough sugar in it to sustain him? Carefully, Steph placed two fingers on Pete’s neck, trying to find his pulse. She couldn’t feel anything, so either she didn’t know what she was doing, or… Before that thought process could continue, Pete shot up. __ OR: Steph and Pete are walking from Beanie’s to school when Pete starts to act strange.
