Fics like Summer of '63

“What’s he doing here?” Todd had thought he was talking to Cameron, but Charlie, sunglasses pushed up into his auburn hair, was looking at him. The music boomed through the speakers; the room hot with sweat. Neil’s eyes were burning the side of his face. Don’t say anything stupid, he thought. “I carried a watermelon.” Laughter, hilarious and wonderful. Neil held onto Charlie’s shoulder as his body shook. Eyes, coffee-warm and alight with joy, locked on Todd’s. He took a step forward, held out his hand. “Do me the honour?” Don’t say anything stupid, Todd begged. You can’t dance. Neil winked at him. And Todd did not know how it happened, could not remember making the decision that his body took for him - just felt Neil's fingers wrap around his as he grasped his hand. “Yes.” Or: Todd never goes to Welton. It's the summer of 1963 when he spends his holidays at Kellerman's and meets the boy who'll change his life.
