Nothing is going the way it’s supposed to. It’s the summer of 1986 and on separate sides of the country, four teenagers are finally able to leave their small-minded towns after graduating and embark on a summer-long cross country road trip. In Maine, Todd Anderson’s best friend Knox Overstreet forces him on a trip to finally get him “out of his shell” once and for all. Meanwhile, in California, Charlie Dalton and Neil Perry attempt to make a great escape from their homophobic parents to seek refuge in New York City. But, when both trips inevitably go to hell and they are all thrown into each other's paths, it might just be the start of a beautiful friendship.
