The nurse rests back against the wall and slides to the floor, her chest heaving. When she turns her ghostly white face up to Peter, his stomach drops. This is no petty personal drama. “They have guns,” she whispers. Time seems to stop even as the elevator rumbles with the promise of motion. “Who has guns?” Peter's voice sounds very far away over the high-pitched hum of dread in his ears. She sobs. Takes a deep breath. Swallows and points at the door. “There are guys out there. They have guns. They're—they're—they're taking hostages.” Peter's eyes flick once more to the number over the door just before the car starts to descend. Eleven. For a moment he stands there dumbly, abruptly lightheaded. Carter is on the eleventh floor. Or, the day after Carter's transplant in 15x19, there is a crisis at Northwestern Memorial.
