Fics like Nothing Has Changed

"Good morning, Ma Jake." He has heard those words before. He heard them every morning for thirty years - from a wife who is now, impossibly, standing in front of him as a stranger, meeting him for the very first time. Jake Sully has woken up at the beginning. Before the war, before the loss, before everything the woods took from him. He carries the memory of an entire life - their marriage, their children, the grief of losing her - and he is the only one who does. She doesn't know him yet. And he is forbidden, by rules he doesn't fully understand, from telling her that she is already his, that she always was. So he does the only thing a man who has lost everything and been handed it back can do: he begins again. In silence. Loving her from the beginning, hoping her heart arrives where he already knows it's going - and dreading the day the world catches up to everything he remembers. How do you court the wife you already buried? How do you save a future only you can see coming?
