When Dumbledore dies going after a cursed ring at the end of Potter's 4th year, the Order is left without a leader - an idol - a symbol of hope and unity. In their infinite wisdom, they decide only Harry Potter - the Boy-Who-Lived - can fill this gap, and he becomes the de facto leader of the Order at fifteen years old. Faced with the Order's weakened chances without Dumbledore and the sudden ascension of a boy he has spent years despising - the son of his childhood tormentor - Severus Snape must decide whether he can face returning to this new Order at all. --- Or: Severus Snape knows what he is. A follower and lieutenant, potions master, dueller and spy. A secret, hidden protector. He's always been all-or-nothing. So now he has to decide if he's in - all in - with Potter at the helm, or if he would be better off abandoning everything he's worked for over the last fifteen years and the promise he made to the grave of the only person he's ever loved to avoid the inevitable. He already knows what it is to humiliate himself at Voldemort's feet. Surely following - truly following - Potter can't be as bad as all that? But there's a voice inside that insists it may very well be worse.
