Fics like we are all just walking each other home

“Moy lyubimiy,” he breathes out, in the language that still holds his oldest truths, the ones the English language will never be able to capture, not completely, not in the way he likes, with the words warmed over and rolled around his tongue. His lips brush against Shane’s knuckles, his cheek, the corner of his mouth. “I’m home.” “Oh.” Shane blinks, once, twice, the meaning not quite settling, still adrift in sleep’s slow tide. Confusion touches him, gentle and unhurried, but it doesn’t root. It never does, not in the way it might in someone else. Because Shane is Shane, because he is perfect, and so he smiles, soft and warm and entirely certain, even in his half-waking state. “Welcome home, Ilya.” “I am home,” Ilya repeats, softer now, closer, the words brushing against Shane’s lips as if he could press them there, make them real in a new way. He wants to taste it, this word, this truth, wants to take it into himself until it becomes inseparable from breath and blood. “I am home, moya lyubov.” Or: Ilya Rozanov realizes that he is home.
