Fics like Ginger Cakes and Amber

"This isn't about what I want, FitzChivalry," he bit out. "It is about everything that you do not. Please. Do not set me up to compromise you when I am already at my lowest. Go, for the sake of your preferences and my friendship, and do not return until your rut has passed you by." "My rut?" I was woefully confused and growing irritable about it. More proof that matters had progressed further than I'd thought. "My preferences? Fool, what are you rambling on about? What in the world does any of this mean?" "I'm in heat," the Fool spat out, agony spiking tightly and painfully in his words. "You need to go, Fitz, because I am in heat, and it will make your rut far worse to be around me. I fear, my friend, that it already has." When grief precipitates Fitz's first rut following the loss of his beloved companion Nighteyes, he receives comfort from the unlikeliest of sources, or perhaps, the most likely source of all.
