The rain’s starting up again outside; Nick can hear it pattering against the window, but somehow, it doesn’t seem gloomy, anymore. All the worn-in annoyance of the trip back is gone, and in its place is a deep, soft warmth, filling up his lungs with fluffy cotton. He lets it swath all over everything like a fuzzy, glowy blanket. He just knows he’s going to sleep better tonight than he has in ages. Or at least, he’s planning to. He’s planning on letting Charlie’s slow breathing and his warm body lull him right into an easy, deep sleep, probably within the next five minutes. Right up until Charlie shifts again, that is. Suddenly Nick’s blinking his eyes open dumbly, inhaling a tight breath. He thinks he can feel, low against his pelvic bone, where the corner of it is suddenly notched flush between Charlie’s thighs— faint, warm slickness, right at the center of his legs. Or: Nick comes back late. Charlie was waiting for him.
