Fics like a name in the fields

Phainon’s soulmark appeared when he was a young boy in Aedes Elysiae. It was supposed to tell him the name of his soulmate, but it was written in an alphabet he had never seen before. He delighted in the idea of a soulmate from a faraway land. Of course, life didn’t turn out as he’d planned. By the time he arrived in Okhema, love was the last thing on his mind. He'd never learned how to read the mark, and at this point, he'd resolved he never would. He'd dedicated his life to the Flame Chase. Once he met Mydei, he felt a connection he had never experienced with anyone. Surely, if he had a soulmate, it had to be him. They started spending more time together, growing closer, until Mydei informed him - he had a soulmate, but it wasn't Phainon. (Or was it?)
