Fics like Some genetics make you boring, other genetics give you dementia

Ilya’s heart hurt as Shane smiled cautiously up at him, “When did your English get so good?” The question hit Ilya in the chest like a physical blow. How could one sentence make Ilya feel so seen and so alone all at the same time? To have his labor these last 4 months acknowledged, even unintentionally, both soothed and frayed his nerves. But, Ilya knew, there was no way he could explain the number of medical journals he had read nor the hours of lectures he had watched without laying his entire heart bare to Shane. “Ah,” Ilya said, “I read The New Yorker now.” “Really?” Shane said, barely containing a manic giggle. If only, Ilya thought. “No,” Ilya answered, “the New Yorker is boring.” “My dad loves it,” Shane offered fondly. One of Ilya’s new least favorite words sprang to mind, “Ah, so being boring is genetic?” -------- or Welcome to my (and Ilya's) crash-out over the word "genetics" after he returns from Sochi.
