It’s been a year since their fight with Renoir, yet to Lune, it remained an inescapable dream, a nightmare haunting her mind, playing on a loop again and again. When she would open her eyes in the morning, dazed with sleep, she could still feel the sticky mixture of sweat and blood all over her body. When she would shower, she still felt the phantom pain radiating out of every wound and scratch, the exhaustion of her muscles settling in, as Maelle exchanged final words with Renoir. She felt the adrenaline slowly leaving her body as they watched the petals flying from Renoir’s disintegrating form. The sensations of her body from that day have permanently edged their way into her memory. But that was the easy part of it. Easy to push out of her thoughts with a good enough distraction, almost manageable when hidden under piles and piles of work, steps of routine, half-hearted conversations. The hard part was what happened after. *** Exploration of what mental state Verso and Lune would find themselves in post-Maelle ending, and trying to answer the question of how to heal from everything that has happened.
