Fics like Reverse 1999: Renketsuen.

Slashing at the threads do not sever them, rather, they will keep turning into smaller, smaller, ever smaller strands and as long as one of these strands remain, it will be possible to trace the thread back to its source. Three children of the City find themselves stranded in an unfamiliar world where time itself is being reversed into oblivion, where the beginning and end of a string become truly connected, all in one unholy Arcane ritual.
