Fics like there were moments of gold (there were flashes of light)

They’re seventeen and they’re forty-five and they’re every age in between, and Ilya isn’t sure if he believes in fate – not quite – but there isn’t a single moment from the past three decades that hasn’t felt like it’s been ushering him quietly towards some form of destiny. There are other ways to die, beyond the physical; slowly and agonizingly, locking the truth away until it’s indistinguishable from the lies. And there are other ways to live; slowly and carefully and secretly, and then out loud, all at once. Or: love between the lines, glimpses of the moments spent in secret before the arrival of the abstract ‘some day’. Five times Shane and Ilya hid themselves from the world, and one time they didn’t have to.
