In the end, Junpei does neither. He slinks out the door like a good boy and fishes his key from his pocket to lock it. The one upside of having a birthday right before college entrance exams is that he doesn’t have to deny anyone’s invitations to celebrate; Yukaricchi had been more apologetic than Junpei was expecting, promising to make it up to him later, but Junpei had privately hoped that she would just forget while he was reassuring her that it was alright. Fuuka gave him his present early with that understated sensitivity of hers, adding that he could come by her parents’ place this evening if he has nowhere else to be… And it was nice of her. Junpei’s always—well, it’d be nice to see her, and even nicer to see Ken, who’s been staying with the Yamagishis since the dorms closed last year, but while Junpei doesn’t have the fondest relationship with Fuuka’s parents, he can’t imagine that house (with Fuuka and Ken and Koromaru all occupying it) to be anything but completely warm and comforting. Somewhere you’d want to come home to at the end of a long day… somewhere to feel safe. Junpei frankly doesn’t deserve to step foot in a place like that. --- Junpei's 18th birthday.
