Fics like If it cannot be me, let it be you

Ilya Rozanov sits on his plush sofa in his highrise apartment in Moscow, he had lost to Latvia the week before, allowing Olympic gold to slip through his fingers. The past week had been endless meetings with his father and other Russian dignitaries and the most important people in Russian hockey. It had been the same conversation every time “he is a disappointment, lazy, he has let his country down. He is not worthy to be Captain.” Finally those meetings had come to an end, just in time for the Olympic final. Canada versus the USA. No matter what Shane Hollander would be leading his team and country to a silver medal. But if he won gold he would be the youngest captain to ever do so. Ilya loved their rivalry, it made him play better. Made the game exciting. But they were rivals, enemies. If you believed the media they hated each other. But they didn’t, not really. At least Ilya did not hate Hollander. He hoped Hollander would win, yes everyone would throw it in his face. It would mean the world talking about how much better he was than Ilya. But secretly, Ilya loved it when Hollander won. As long as it was not against him of course. So if Russia could not win gold. Then he hoped Canada would.
