Fics like Side Story: Under the Lamplighter's Wing

"Don’t tell them where I am, please,” she says. The fatigue in her voice is surprising, though despite the word, there is hardly any pleading in her tone. “I’m just getting some space while we’re laying low.” “Thought they kept you on a tighter leash,” he says after another shot. “Well, some fresh air should be good for you.” Syra, in a break from her usual propriety, leans her head down on her folded arm, slumping over the counter. The flush seems more pronounced here. “I fucked them all out last night,” she says, tracing the rim of a shotglass. “They didn’t see me leave.” He coughs between sips before chuckling. “So drinking alone is your reprieve from your imprisonment?” “I don’t know where else to go. I’m supposed to be dead.” A scarred hand settles down on his. Her fingers move as if in fascination, not intentional seduction. She finds one of his extra drinks, a mixed one that she pulls to her lips. “I’ll go back eventually.”
