Behind him, the sound of the slamming train doors reminds him that he’s made his decision. The train is leaving the station, and with it, the chance to turn around and go home to Downton. Pretend like this has all been a bad dream, and he can wake up from it by wishing really, really hard. Instead, he picks up his travelling case, and makes the slow march to his sister’s house.
