Fics like A Touch Across Time

When James T. Kirk wakes from cryogenic stasis into a future where Earth is gone and humanity survives only through interspecies integration, the last thing he expects is a Vulcan husband—let alone one who turns out to be as gentle, awkward, and quietly devoted as Spock. Adjusting to life on Vulcan is hard enough: blistering heat, unfamiliar customs, and a bondmate who seems determined to keep his distance despite the pull between them. But as Jim navigates mourning a lost world, building community in an alien desert, and rediscovering his own purpose, he begins to realize that Spock isn’t distant at all—just afraid of wanting too much. Their slow, careful partnership becomes a refuge neither expected, unfolding through domestic rituals, cultural misunderstandings, and a growing tenderness that defies logic. And when obstacles arise—from hostile colleagues to the weight of tradition—they’ll have to decide whether the life they are building together is worth fighting for. A story about second chances, quiet love, and finding home in the most unexpected place in the galaxy. --- Loosely inspired by Octavia Butler's "Dawn."
