Fics like The Witching Hours

Avid was sick. He'd been sick for years, his wound baffling every doctor, apothecary, and priest he'd gone to. It shouldn't be a surprise he'd turned to other methods to keep it at bay. Alchemy had been his saving grace, buying him time to keep looking for a cure. Never mind the whispers that claimed magic or the villages he'd had to flee if anyone ever caught wind of his workshop. It wasn't witchcraft, it was science. Probably. Oakhurst had been his last lead. The land was steeped in legend, vampires and the like coloring its stories. Elle had always spearheaded the monster hunting, working in the field to rid the world of monsters and search for anything vaguely like Avid's own symptoms. A cure was what he needed, and his partner had died for it. He wouldn't let that sacrifice be in vain. Maybe, just maybe, he could kill the vampires that did this to her too. Or, Avid's a witch and people are just a little more superstitious. This changes some things.
