Fics like Getting to Know You

Tien was stunned. It- it had responded. Truly responded. Understood. How could- why-? “You-” he stuttered. “How are you- spren can’t talk!” “Hmmm, lies…” a second voice chimed in. Also male, though this one had more of a buzz to it. Tien glanced back at the rock in his hand in alarm. “Some sprenn can sspeak. If they choosse…” Tien dropped the stone in fright, the stone falling to the ground with a thud. He immediately felt a stab of guilt. “I’m sorry,” he squeaked. “I didn’t mean to- you surprised me.” Storms, he was apologizing to a spren. ----------- Tien's time in Hearthstone leading up to his military draft. It will include his perspective on events like the attempted sphere theft and Rillir's death. This time will be used to establish his character, among other things, and to introduce him to his spren. Tien is so used to bottling up every negative thought and opinion he's ever had that having spren he feels are safe to talk to is an alien experience to him almost as much as the talking spren are. This fic will explore Tien's relationships and the many problems Tien has that were mostly subtext in the books.
