Fics like featherstone

Carol looks Kris in the eye, and she says “you’re going to help me find her.” Sharper than she intends. It cuts her throat on the way out, the loss of December. Kris is crying. So is Carol. So should all of Hometown, loss so heavy it taunts her from its place in her stomach. She couldn’t protect her little fawn. What is she supposed to do now? What is there to do now? Find her, her heart screams, pounding against her chest. Bring her home. She will, she will, she will. And Kris knows what happened. Kris let it happen. So they will help her. --- or: five conversations between carol and kris, and one apology.
