And Neptune would never let his moons see that. ...He wasn't even alone, so why was he so upset about being alone? Neptune pressed the back of his hand to his eyes, trying to stifle the quiet sob that followed next- but it came anyway. A shaky, breathy gasp followed, causing him the hand in his hair to move back to his mouth again. He tried to breathe through it, tried to stop, stop before his moons actually wake- but his stupid brain refused to listen, as always. Quiet tears stained his sleeves, but at least he made no sound. At least, Neptune thought, he did that right. Until... a tiny, impossibly small, delicate body pressed itself against the back of his neck. And Neptune froze.
