Fics like the smallest things take up the most room in your heart

John just hummed in the back of his throat and unfolded the lab paper. His eyes skimmed the hormonal breakdown, only half-absorbing what he knew it all meant over the buzzing in his ears, before they dropped to the lab’s conclusion at the bottom of the page in bold type: PATIENT’S LEVELS ARE INDICATIVE OF PREGNANCY. “Carter?” Carol asked and her hand reached out to grasp his elbow like she was afraid he was about to collapse. “Is it-? Are you alright? You went awfully pale.” “I’m…” John trailed off and then he let out a breathless laugh as a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Shit, I’m pregnant.” Another laugh, steadier and unmistakably elated, bubbled up as he raked a hand back through his hair and let the information sink in. He was going to be a dad.
