Fics like Five Festivities, And One Alexander Understood

Alexander never saw a celebration, let alone had a reason to in his days as a captive. When he returns home, his basic understanding is that it's always whimsical, that past and future don't matter in these things... Just the now. His master always kept him in that state of now; there never was anything else, to let him explain it. As time goes by, he finds himself swept up in celebrations. But these sometimes come with contradicting feelings, even with good intent. And while Alexander wants to be healed, ready for mindless enjoyment, Manannan haunts his memories as a final hold on him. Five times, he's overwhelmed. It's the sixth when he's free from the ghost. And the world won't wait for his progress, just carries on. (King's Quest 2015 reboot)
