Carmichaelton is a quiet county on the edge of unrest, where old scars from war still ache and new threats stir beyond the forest. Into this fragile peace wanders Nicander, a mysterious errant knight whose arrival unsettles as much as it inspires. Drawn into the struggles of the town and the stern Assessor who governs it, Nicander must choose between drifting on as an exile or standing firm as Carmichaelton’s defender. When the shadow of siege falls across the walls, vows will be tested, bonds will be forged, and legends will be born. — The Exactor spun, his fleshy face colouring at the interruption. “And who are you to interfere in lawful collection? Some drifter with too much tongue and too little sense?” “Not just any drifter.” Nicander bowed low, mockingly grand. “I am the Errator, defender of the downtrodden, scourge of tyranny both great and small, and sworn foe of men who think a chain around their neck makes them mighty.”
