Fics like A Refuge for the Heart

"And Jesus took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but Him who sent me.’” Mark 9:36-37 -------- After Rashid punishes Altaïr for speaking the truth to Abbas in regards to his father's death, and seeing the aftermath of such a cruel punishment in the wounded shell of the boy he loves, Malik decides he will stand by no longer. Unwilling to let this Order harm another loved one, Malik takes drastic measures to flee into the night with his lover and brother in tow. Desperate and low on supplies, the novices find safety and sanctuary in an unlikely group of knights traveling to Jerusalem. Often picking up pilgrims on their travels to escort them between cities and across dangerous borders, Robert de Sablé and the rest of the Poor Fellow Soldiers at his side are no strangers to tending to orphans on the roadside. When he offers them aid and takes them back to their Temple in the Holy City, none of the knights expected their Grandmaster to grow so attached to the young boys in his care.
